| Milne Bay province is loacated right on the "tail" of Papua New Guinea at the eastern extremity of the main island. The main town Alotau is very clean (a rarity for PNG) and relatively safe. It was the first place (as Australians will proudly tell you) that the Japanese were defeated on land in the Pacific. | |||

| As with many places in Papua New Guinea the markets are a colourful place to stroll around. I was not game to try the Cassowary Eggs (above). The local Diesel Power Station was the best maintained of any we had seen in Papua New Guinea on our travels | |||

Our trip into the Weir site on the Gumini River was full of adventure with having to cut our way through trees and getting vehicles out of holes. The final part of the trek in was a hard foot slog through clinging vines. The Jungle was full of birds including Birds of Paradise (which we heard but could not see), Parrots and Hornbills |
